About the Product

What is tallow and why do you use it in skincare?

Tallow is rendered beef fat with a fatty acid profile similar to human sebum. We source ours from regeneratively raised cattle, which exceeds grass-fed and organic standards for soil health and animal welfare.

Is tallow rich in vitamins A, D, E, and K?

No, and we would rather say so plainly. Those vitamins are fat-soluble, so people assume a fat must be full of them. Independent lab testing of grass-fed tallow found only trace amounts, far below a dose that does anything on skin. That is why our formula adds rosehip and sea buckthorn for vitamin A and omega-7 instead of relying on the tallow.

Will tallow clog my pores?

What usually breaks people out is what the tallow is blended with, not the tallow. In a controlled trial, four weeks of topical olive oil reduced skin barrier integrity. Coconut oil is highly comedogenic and essential oils are a common sensitizer. Our formula leaves all three out. Any rich balm can still be too heavy for very oily skin.

How is True Origin different from other tallow brands?

Most competitors use three or four ingredients. We treat tallow as a base and add complementary components: castor, meadowfoam, and squalane, the Hydration Trinity, plus rosehip and sea buckthorn for vitamin A and omega-7. Whole botanical infusions of rose, vanilla pods, and marshmallow root replace essential oils entirely. We are recommended by integrative and functional doctors and carried in holistic medical clinics.

Is your product essential oil free?

Yes. Every True Origin product contains zero essential oils. Scent comes from slow infusion of whole botanicals directly into the lipid base, which makes it appropriate for pregnancy, postpartum, breastfeeding, and reactive skin.

What is suet-based tallow and why does it matter?

Suet is the fat surrounding the kidneys and organs. Most competitors use trim fat from other parts. Suet produces a purer, odorless tallow with a more neutral base, so we avoid needing essential oils to mask odor.

Does it feel greasy, and how much should I use?

It is a concentrated balm, so a little goes a long way. A pea-sized amount melts in and absorbs without leaving a greasy film. Because you use so little, one jar lasts most people two to three months.

Where is your product made?

Each jar is handcrafted in small batches in Saratoga Springs, Utah.

How to Use

How do I apply Deep Hydration Whip?

Use a pea-sized amount on damp skin after cleansing or bathing. Press gently into your face, neck, or body. Damp skin helps the lipid spread and absorb.

How do I use it on my face vs. my body?

On the face, apply after cleansing to damp skin with gentle pressing, then wait about 60 seconds before sunscreen or makeup. On the body, apply post-shower to damp skin. Same product, both areas.

Can I use it around my eyes?

Yes. With no essential oils or actives, the eye area is fine. Use a small amount and pat rather than rub.

Can I use it with retinol or other actives?

Yes. Standard layering: water-based serum first, then your active such as retinol or tretinoin, then Deep Hydration Whip as the final occlusive layer to seal everything in.

Do I still need a separate moisturizer?

For most users, no. It replaces face moisturizer, body moisturizer, hand cream, and lip balm, with a separate sunscreen.

Pregnancy, Postpartum & Sensitive Skin

Is True Origin formulated for pregnancy?

The formula is made without essential oils, retinoids, synthetic preservatives, and ingredients commonly flagged during pregnancy. Customers have used it through all three trimesters. We recommend confirming with your OB or midwife for your specific situation.

Can I use it while breastfeeding?

It contains no essential oils and no compounds known to affect milk supply. As a general precaution, wash visible residue from hands or chest before direct nursing.

Is it made for sensitive skin or eczema-prone skin?

James created True Origin after severe autoimmune skin issues that nothing else resolved. The formula uses no essential oils, fragrance, synthetic preservatives, or actives, just barrier-similar lipids your skin recognizes. Patch test if your skin is highly reactive.

Can I use it on babies and kids?

Many customers use it on dry patches for their children. It contains no essential oils and no synthetic fragrance, but every skin is different: patch test first, and check with your pediatrician before using anything on an infant.

Texture & Storage

Why does the texture vary between jars?

We use no synthetic stabilizers, so each batch reflects natural variation in the tallow and botanicals. Performance is consistent. The exact look may shift slightly.

What if my jar arrives soft or melted?

The product is unaffected. Refrigerate for 30 minutes and rewhip gently with a clean utensil to restore the texture.

Are small specks normal?

Yes. They are from the botanical infusions of rose petals, vanilla pods, and marshmallow root, and do not affect performance.

What is the shelf life?

12 months unopened. Use within 6 months once opened.
